About
Bird Bellony is a guitarist, composer, and producer whose playing defies easy categorization. Born in Dominica and shaped by Cadence, Calypso, Country, Blues, and Rock, his sound reaches toward the cinematic — a voice on the guitar that is unmistakably his own. Fluent in French and English, Bird has lived and performed across three continents, bringing a rare cosmopolitan depth to everything he plays.
A professional drummer from his earliest days performing as "Little Bird," Bird brought that rhythmic foundation to every instrument he picked up. A true multi-instrumentalist, he recorded most parts himself on Mood Strings — guitar, bass, drums, keys, flute, and harmonies — creating a singular sonic vision that critics have compared to guitarists of the calibre of Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, and Mark Knopfler.
As co-founder and creative force behind the Reggae Cowboys — formed in Toronto in 1993 — Bird helped build one of the most distinctive catalogs in independent music: five albums, 15 years of international touring, the Kennedy Center, the Bob Marley Festival in Miami alongside Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, and Ziggy Marley, stages shared with the Skatalites, the Wailers, Toots and the Maytals, Lucky Dube, and Widespread Panic across North America and beyond, and a landmark residency at Reggae on the River in Humboldt County, California. On tour with The Wailers, Bird performed alongside some of the most celebrated names in Caribbean music — including Ophelia Marie, Dominica's legendary "Grande Dame of Creole Music" and pioneer of Cadence-lypso.
When producer L. Stu Young was brought in to work with Prince on Musicology and 3121, Prince was struck that Stu understood his recording style immediately. The reason? Stu had already spent years working with Bird — recording most parts himself, across every instrument. Working with Bird had already prepared Stu for what came next. That same collaboration earned Stu a 2026 Juno Award nomination.
Today, Bird continues to perform and record from Dominica, where he is an active presence at the island's major festivals while developing new solo work under Range Music Group.
